Thrifty Wednesday – Kohl’s score

HR Thrifty Wednesday

So I was sent a $5 coupon from Kohl’s for shopping there for 15 years. Really? It’s been that long?! That’s got to show my age – Ouch! Then I received an email that I had an additional $10 Kohl’s YES coupon. Sweet!

I went to Kohl’s and checked out all the clearance – in every department. I found 2 items to put into my gift closet and seen they had basic long sleeve t-shirts on sale for $6.99. So I grabbed a dark khaki green one (keeping in mind that goes with my Fall Capsule Wardrobe.)

20180927_125446(Shirt & earrings $3.24, brown sweater – free, blue pants – free, brown swede shoes – $5)

Then I seen Halloween jewelry and quickly moved onto the fall jewelry that I could wear throughout the full fall season. This cute leave ones were 1/2 off and were 2 colors I didn’t have in my current earrings. (Again, they go with my fall capsule wardrobe.)

Total cost after take for my 4 things I brought to the checkout lane

after my coupons applied- $3.24!

I can handle that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thrifty Wednesday – Fall Score!

HR Thrifty Wednesday

My older daughter has had a project she would like to do which means I’m in the hunt for a black and red flannel shirt – men’s, larger the better.

So on my lunch, I played hooky from the gym and skirted over to the nearest Salvation Army store. I browsed the men’s section and couldn’t find what I was on the hunt for.ย  I decided to browse the coat section. Maybe there is “coat-like” flannel shirt in the red and black plaid pattern I wanted.

Sure enough I found what I needed surrounded by coats, jackets, and vests. BUT in the meantime, I came across this like-new condition Field & Stream Hyroproofย  Ultra camo jacket! It had super soft burgundy lining and felt very warm when I tried it on – not too big, not too small.

My other half hunts and I don’t own anything camo and thought, if I had this coat, I could sit with him when he hunts and enjoy the great outdoors. ๐Ÿ™‚ And for the price of $25, it’s is a steal compared to the current similar model starting at $79.99.ย  SAVINGS: $58.29!!

2(Similar here $79.99)

Now I have a warm camo to venture out into the great outdoors with or at least have a warm coat to shovel snow with. ๐Ÿ™‚ hee hee

Thrifty Wednesday: Fall Capsule additions

HR Thrifty Wednesday

I have begun my fall wardrobe capsule (info here) .

As stated before (here) I am incorporating the wardrobe capsule into my daily life but may not be as strict as some people who may only have 33 items. I will have a seasonal wardrobe that is tailored to my needs. ๐Ÿ™‚

With that being said, my fall wardrobe is based on the color palette below.

fall capsule wardrobe

So when I went to my local Goodwill on my lunch and kept these colors in mind when I roamed the racks. I normally would have looked at all the colors under the rainbow and pull anything that caught my eye, but this time, I stuck only to the colors listed above.

What I pulled: 2 khaki pants (on my fall shopping list), 1 patterned pants, 2 dresses, 1 shirt, and 2 skirts.

These pants below were AB Studios (brand can be found at Kohls or Target – similar pant here) were super comfy yet dress to wear to work or church! Plus the colors fit my fall capsule (black, white, warm browns) My cost: $4.29

Close up of the cool design! ๐Ÿ™‚

This top (Brand: Vanity) fit comfortably. Plus it had polka-dots and ruffles which I love! This will become part of my basic wardrobe foundation (Similar found here) My cost: $2.14ย  Now the skirt (Brand: Talbot) – I LOVED everything about this skirt except it was snug when I stood up and failed the sit down challenge. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I loved it hit just below my knees, it was tweed, and it had the khaki green in the print. If it was one size larger and fit like glove, I would have done a happy dance! (Similar found here)

The next skirt (Brand: Focus 2000) I tried on also hit just below the knees and had cute ruffles at the bottom. The fit was better than the green so it went into the keep pile (Similar found here) My cost: $1.99

This dress (Brand: H&M) (Similar found here), to me had an military vibe to it via the warm brown color, the color, button top part. The bottom was A-line still which I lean towards (wide hips ๐Ÿ˜ฆย  UGH!).ย  I added the khaki green belt to give my weight more definition. Also it hits just below my knee which is what I prefer (to hide my chunky thighs).

The dress was little big in the middle as you can see from the backside where I “gathered” it via the belt. I think if I can take it in a little bit at the waist, then it will fit perfectly. It’s a neutral color and am excited to pair it with more dressed up look for work/church. My cost: $3.24.ย  (Belt – my cost: $2.99)

So on the left is my smaller keep pile and to the right was my larger pass pile.

Did you find any good thrifty steals lately? I’d love to see them! ๐Ÿ˜€

Also keep an eye out for these gems in the rough being paired with other items in my closet in my fall capsule posts. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thrifty Wednesday

20180517_204056

I went to the local thrift store today on the hunt for something to plant the rest of my flowers in so that project can be checked off my to-do list that is growing longer and longer by the hour.

I was looking for something that would catch my eye, something that was out of the ordinary.

I found many items that were unique and would work but didn’t fit into the budget I had going in. I had $1.50 in quarters and I didn’t want to spend a penny over.

I found a blue square plastic bowl that fit the bill and tucked it under my arm. It wasn’t as unique as other things I found but it fit my price range, the rest of my flowers would fit inside, and the blue would go with the rest of the pots I had thus far.

As I slowly walked around looking for jeans for my other half, I came across this cute red, black, and white skirt, sitting on the just-came-in rack, waiting to be put on the correct spot on the floor. What caught my eye were the deep colors and the length of the skirt.

It was a Worthington (average retail price $30)skirt, priced at $3.99. It was in great condition, like new condition. It had some pleating in the front only and some cute tole on bottom of the built in slip. The side zipper worked great. What you don’t really see is how high the skirt actually went up on my waist – must have been made for a tailored shirt to be tucked in.

That outfit would be super cute but I know I would never wear an a shirt tucked into this skirt since it’s not my style.

(By the way, the cute skirt behind me was too small and has some slight discoloring by the zipper. Boo!)

A close up at the SUPER CUTE PRINT! It reminded of me dangling earrings or a fancy chandelier.

Needless to say, I liked the skirt – but didn’t LOVE it entirely. So the skirt went back on the rack. I KNOW it won’t stay there long.

I walked out of the store with my blue container and some change in my purse. I was proud of myself for having the discipline not to buy something that I wasn’t going to be 100% in love with it.

Maybe next time I will another cute skirt to showcase. ๐Ÿ™‚ What thrifty treasures did you find?
